What is STX?

This digital asset serves as the native cryptocurrency for a layer-1 blockchain designed to bring decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts to Bitcoin. It aims to bridge the gap between Bitcoin's robust security and the programmability of other blockchains, enabling developers to build complex applications directly on top of the Bitcoin network. The underlying technology utilizes a novel consensus mechanism called Proof-of-Transfer (PoX). PoX allows participants to mine STX by committing Bitcoin, effectively leveraging Bitcoin's security to secure the network. This process also rewards miners with new STX tokens.
